What is the Bayou Bowl? The Bayou Bowl is an All Star game between the best graduated players in Texas and Louisiana. The idea for the Bayou Bowl was originally conceived in 2002 by the director of the Baytown/West Chambers County Economic Development Foundation, the President of the Baytown Chamber of Commerce, the incoming chair of the Greater Houston Football Coaches Assoc. (who is also the head coach of Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown) and a local banker from Amegy Bank in Baytown.
The game was so well received with more than 8,000 spectators that the group decided that the 2004 game had the potential of generating considerable additional funds. The Bayou Bowl has affiliated with Shriners Hospitals for Children with net proceeds going to this worthwhile charity. One day of the players week goes to visit the hospital. - The 2005 game generated $29,000 for the Shriners Hospitals for Children with the 2006 game generating $35,000 for the hospitals. Each year the game seems to get larger.

Bayou Bowl 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006The 2003 game exceeded the expectations of all involved. The organization was able to generate more than $100,000 to bring the game to fruition. The 2004 game generated enough profit to benefit the Shrine Hospitals for Children. The 2005 game was the most successful of the three generating $29,000 for the Shrine Hospitals for Children. The 2006 game was the most successful ever generating some $35,000 for the Shrine Hospitals. Sponsors were primarily local to the Baytown area, and there is a need to develop this into the Houston area and Louisiana. The game was televised by Fox Sports Net Southwest more than five times throughout the southwest and drew the attention of many newspapers and radio stations. There were some 10,000 fans in attendance (many of those from the State of Louisiana). Proceeds went to scholarships for Greater Houston Football Coaches Assoc. and Louisiana Athletics, as well as, to the Shrine Hospitals for Children.
Why a Charity? The Bayou Bowl now in its fifth year has further developed the organization with a steering committee, executive committee and committee structure. While we are still obligated to the Houston Area Coaches Association and the Louisiana Coaches Association for scholarship monies, we feel that affiliation with a charity that is recognized throughout the country will benefit both the Bayou Bowl Organization and the charity (Shrine Hospitals for Children). It is the belief of the Steering Committee members that the fifth year which is 2007 will bring much greater returns than were experienced in 2003 (our first year) ,2004, 2005 or 2006.
